Since 2012, I've been sharing with you my long quest for financial independence through my series of articles "Journal of a Future Rentier." Now that this goal has been achieved, I've compiled, expanded, and rearranged them into a single book.
From the age of seven, I felt out of step with school and the life path the adult world wanted to trace for me. I followed their recommendations for too long, which systematically led me to the wrong place. These repeated bad experiences reinforced my independence of mind and my desire to free myself from the constraints imposed on me.
This book traces my long journey to financial independence, starting with school, going through higher education, entering the professional world, and finally reaching the status of a forty-something "rentier." It alternates between carefree periods, periods of doubt, joy, debauchery, intense work, stress, and newfound freedom.
In it, I retrace my chaotic beginnings in the stock market, as well as the long and difficult apprenticeship that followed. Starting from nothing, I quickly lost the little money I had saved. However, little by little, over time, I got back on my feet, which allowed me to free myself more and more from the world of work.
Thanks to my stock market and real estate investments, I was able to make my capital grow. The dividends and rents I received allowed me to invest more and more, until I was able to live off them.
Now I live my life according to my own aspirations, free from the obligations that had been imposed on me since my earliest childhood.
